Decommissioning Oversight Services for EKPC Dale Power Plant

Overview:

KERAMIDA was contracted by East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) to provide oversight services for the decommissioning of Dale Station, which functioned as a coal-fired power plant in Winchester, KY, beginning in 1954 until going offline in 2016.

Project Details:

KERAMIDA initiated work by completing a preliminary assessment and performing a subsurface investigation around one existing and one former heating oil underground storage tank (UST) and associated piping located in the general proximity of the power generation building. KERAMIDA also completed a technical review and provided comments on the decommissioning and demolition project specifications with regard to asbestos abatement, and conducted perimeter background dust monitoring.

Additional services KERAMIDA was contracted to perform included:

  • Perimeter Air Monitoring (Dust)

  • Environmental Waste Removal/Disposal, Oversight/Waste, Logging/Tracking

  • Asbestos Abatement Oversight Including On-Site Clearance Sampling and Analysis

  • Waste Characterization Sampling and Analysis

  • Erosion Control Inspections

  • Underground Storage Tank Closure

  • Final Reporting
