KERAMIDA’s Kate Anderson, Environmental Inspector, Level 4, saved an injured Drake Wood Duck while conducting an environmental site inspection on a job-site in Virginia this week. The duck had been attacked by a predator and was unable to fly, and was taken to a local wildlife rehabber.

Tip from the Wildlife Rehabber: Wood ducks can become extremely stressed to the point of death. If you encounter an injured one, keep it in a dark, quiet place until help arrives.

Part of Kate’s environmental inspection work includes performing flora and fauna wildlife sweeps as required by site-specific permitting and as directed by the client. Sweeps are typically conducted on foot through sensitive areas and may include miles of walking in varying terrain and conditions and the identification and preparation of Exclusion Zones. KERAMIDA’s team of inspectors are cross-trained in field-related specialties including:

  • Herpetology sweeps

    • Turtles

    • Snakes (poisonous/non-poisonous)

    • Amphibians

    • Amphibians and reptiles are documented, handled, or relocated per permit requirements

  • Endangered Species Act

  • Migratory Bird Act

  • Macro fauna identification
