KERAMIDA is proud to have just completed a Waste Composition Study for the Denali National Park and Preserve as part of the Zero Landfill Initiative (ZLI) led by Subaru. The Zero Landfill Initiative was launched when the National Parks Conservation Association, Subaru of America, and the National Park Foundation partnered with the National Park Service and park concessionaires from three iconic National Parks – Denali National Park & Preserve, Grand Tetons National Park, and Yosemite National Park with the goal of reducing the amount of waste national parks send to landfills.

Subaru, the National Parks Foundation largest corporate donor, has been an advocate and friend of the national parks for nearly 20 years, building long-standing partnerships with the National Park Foundation, Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, and others. Subaru’s manufacturing and zero-landfill expertise from having the first automotive assembly plant in America being designated as zero landfill put it in the unique position to help guide the National Park Service toward reaching zero-landfill parks. Starting in 2021, Subaru engaged KERAMIDA as part of this innovative partnership and the KERAMIDA team began by conducting the first study at Grand Teton National Park.

Since the launch of the initiative in 2015, the pilot parks have made significant strides keeping more than 17 million pounds of waste out of landfills, which is equivalent to the weight of 42,500 grizzly bears.
