Overview:

AFS.jpg

The American Foundry Society (AFS) hired KERAMIDA to review and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for a variety of alloys manufactured for member companies. KERAMIDA provided this service, to assure that the SDS meet the requirements of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).

Project Details:

The AFS has a total of 46 SDS for metal alloys and one (1) for used foundry sand. KERAMIDA reviewed the existing SDS for the alloys produced by AFS member organizations. Specifically, KERAMIDA evaluated the following:

  • Review of the additional information required by GHS:

    • Signal word

    • Hazard and precautionary statements

    • Hazard symbol

    • Transportation information (UN number and shipping name, transport hazard class, packing group, environmental hazards, and bulk or other special precautions)

  • Review and confirmation of the various physical and chemical properties required by the GHS.

  • Evaluate the additional Toxicological Information using toxicological information of product. constituents.

  • Include ecological information, where available.

  • Include disposal information, where available.

  • Current Date in header on each page and also in Section 16.

  • Based upon the SDS, KERAMIDA will prepare an example of the label requirements for each alloy.

Once complete, all SDS’s were provided electronically to AFS in PDF format.
