The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is the official destination marketing organization of Las Vegas. It promotes tourism, conventions, meetings and special events, and provides ongoing advocacy to extend the city’s influence as a leader in tourism and hospitality. As a result, the LVCVA is among the world’s top destination marketing organizations. On behalf of LVCVA, KERAMIDA conducted a comprehensive Environmental, Health and Safety audit to assess the status of compliance of the Las Vegas Convention Center with federal, state, and local Health and Safety laws, regulations and policies.

KERAMIDA conducted a pre-audit review of existing documents and programs followed by an onsite audit of the Convention Center. The Las Vegas Convention Center is Approximately 3.2 million square feet with exhibit space of 2 million square feet and meeting space of almost 250,000 square feet. The facility has 144 meeting rooms with seating capacity ranging from 20 to 2,500, a grand lobby and registration area operated by approximately 500 employees. The final product was a comprehensive report detailing all audit findings and suggested best management practices.

KERAMIDA’s EHS Services included:

Environmental Compliance

  • Air – reporting and record keeping, training; and ventilation to prevent airborne contaminants (standard and codes); training

  • Wastewater – source inventory, permits and approvals; training; operations; storm water management

  • Waste – solid and hazardous waste management including general waste disposal; used oil disposal; waste paint disposal; waste permitting; waste management training

Safety Compliance

  • General – established Health and Safety (HS) management systems; employee safety awareness; housekeeping; safety color coding; safety observations; emergency eyewash/shower stations, compressed air; gas cylinders; fire protection systems; OSHA log

  • H&S Training – provided for all affected employees covering topics such as hazard communication, bloodborne pathogen, electrical safety, lockout/tagout, permit required, confined spaces, etc.

  • Chemical Safety/Hazardous Substances – chemical inventory, identification/labeling and storage; safety data sheets; spill planning and prevention; flammable and corrosive liquid management including storage; PCB; pesticide; crystalline silica; asbestos; mold; lead

  • Hazard Evaluation – industrial hygiene; job hazard analysis

  • Programs, Plans, Procedures and Policies – hazard communication; lockout/tagout; respiratory protection; process safety management; personal protective equipment; bloodborne pathogens; emergency action; permit required confined spaces; hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER); electrical safety; fire prevention; powered platforms for building maintenance; contractor and visitor safety; fall protection; walking/working surfaces; machine guarding; powered industrial trucks (forklifts); aerial, boom and scissor lift; injury and accident investigation; medical management/first aid
