Several States File Lawsuit to Block New SEC Climate Disclosure Rules

Just hours after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) adopted the new climate-related disclosure rules, a coalition of ten states announced the launch of a lawsuit to block the new rules. States joining the lawsuit include Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Indiana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

This suit might be the beginning of a series of hurdles for the new rules, after the SEC adopted them yesterday on March 6, 2024. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and U.S. Congressional Republicans have also voiced opposition to the SEC’s new climate disclosure requirements.
