KERAMIDA, with Jackson County, Awarded $2,303,775 from
the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund for JISCO Redevelopment
On Wednesday, December 14, 2005 the Jackson Iron & Steel Company (JISCO) project was awarded $2,303,775 in the third round of the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund (CORF). KERAMIDA's Matt Wagner and Terry Hair were the successful authors of the grant. The project ranked tenth out of twenty-two projects. Only fifteen of the twenty-two projects were funded.
The 56-acre property contained the JISCO furnace that made pig iron for Chrysler, and operated from 1900 until 1969. The property is currently vacant and littered with structures in various states of disrepair. US Rail plans to redevelop the property as a locomotive and rail repair facility. This project is expected to create 50 jobs.
